Madison 8U Team Wins State Championship

Out of 20 teams that were in the tournament this past weekend, the Madison 8U team emerged as the 2022 SD VFW 8U State Champions.

The tournament was held in Bryant, Hayti, and Castlewood, SD from July 8-10, and the Madison 8U team’s road to success did not come easy, especially in bracket play where they played against three top-five teams.

After pool play, the team was 2-1 after wins against Watertown and Gary, with the loss coming to West Central.

Madison started the bracket play as the #8 seed, which saw them play against the #1 seed Canistota/Freeman. Madison won that game 16-5, before moving on to beat #5 Milbank 8-6.

That put them in the championship game in Bryant against Corsica/Stickney, where they won 6-4 to take home the championship.
