Howard Tigers Getting Ready for the Quarterfinals

Tonight the Howard Tigers football team will play in the quarterfinals of the 9AA playoffs against the Parkston Trojans. Both teams won by 42 points last week to reach the quarterfinals.

A week ago, the Howard Tigers beat Britton-Hecla 48-8 to advance to this round, meanwhile Parkston defeated Leola/Frederick Area 46-6. With this being round two, the Tigers Head Coach, Pat Ruml, says his team is more focused this week.

Even though the Tigers were winning, Ruml said that after they lost three All-State players from a year ago, it took some time to get to where they wanted to be at, especially offensively where in the first three games they scored no more than 21 points in a game, but every game since they have scored no less than 45 points.

Ruml also said that he and his coaches are able to keep their players level headed and make sure they take these games one week at a time instead of looking too far ahead.

Parkston will not be an easy match, as they only have one loss on the year (8-1), but a year removed from winning the 9A State Championship, this Tiger’s team has the ability to do the same thing this year in 9AA.

The winner of tonight’s game will play the winner of the Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy @ Elkton-Lake Benton game. 9AA Bracket can be found here.

Howard’s game will kickoff in Howard at 7pm tonight, and the game can be heard on FM 103.1 or at AmazingMadison.com.
