Halfway Mark in the Cornbelt League

We are more than half way through the Cornbelt season, and it is still anyone’s league to take. Lennox and the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks appear to have an edge over everyone else, but following those two teams, it is shaping up to be a dog fight down the stretch.

The Lennox Alpacas (10-2) and Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks (9-2) lead the way, for both teams have only suffered two losses up to this point, with Lennox getting their second loss last week to the Dell Rapids Mudcats. Fighting for third place at the moment is the Flandreau Cardinals (8-4), the Canova Gang (7-5), and the Dell Rapids Mudcats (7-5).

Mudcats are beginning to pick up some steam coming off of the Cornbelt v Sunshine Tournament, going 3-0 since the tournament and outscoring opponents 28-3 in their last three games. Two of the three games ended after 7-innings.

Madison Broncos (5-6), Colman A’s (5-7), and the Salem Cubs (4-7) are bunched together at the moment as well. All one of those teams need to do to get back into serious contention is get hot at the right time, unfortunately though time may be running out.

Dell Rapids PBR (2-9) and the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks (1-11) round out the bottom of the league, with both teams struggling up to this point this season.

Districts will be here in a blink of an eye, scheduled for July 22-30 in Dell Rapids, so for the teams hoping to climb up the standings in the Cornbelt league, now is the time to do so.
