Gamecocks Head Into Districts With a Win Over the Argali

The Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks finished their regular season in Cornbelt play with another strong victory, getting the 7-2 win over the Colman A’s.

The home team brought in three runners in the bottom of the first, and from then on it was all Gamecocks. The Gamecocks scored two more runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings, giving them a 5-0 score after five.

Colman finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh, but by the time their offense had finally started working it was too little too late. The Argali grabbed another run in the eighth, but the Gamecocks matched both of the Aragli’s runs, giving them the 7-2 victory.

The Gamecocks had more than double the amount of hits as the Argali, getting 14 hits to the Argali’s six.

Broc Heldeman and Brandon McKnight both led the way for the Gamecocks in hitting, with both each getting three hits. McKnight also scored a run while Heldeman scored two runs and also had an RBI.

Adam Hentges and Kyle Bailey both had two hits and two RBIs for the home team. Drew Maras had two hits as well, followed by Luke Wodhal and Noah Vettrus with a hit each.

Scoring runs for the Gamecocks were Cam Quigley, Seth Cavanaugh, Joe Hanisch, and Dylan Sherard.

Ian Barker was the top stat grabber for Colman with a hit, an RBI, and a run, getting the lone RBI for the A’s. Adam Fritz was the other batter to score a run as well as getting a hit.

Colt Hawkins, Tim Kudhal, Chase Dewitt, and Carter Roach each had a hit.

Cole Barthel got the win for the Gamecocks, pitching seven innings of five-hit ball and one run allowed while also striking out three. Getting the loss for Colman was Ian Barker, who gave up 12 hits and five runs in six-innings. Barker struck out four as well.

That wrapped up both teams’ regular season in Cornbelt play this year, with both teams now looking ahead to Districts starting on Friday, July 22. Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks finished their season with a record of 14-4, while the Colman A’s finished at 7-11. As schedules for Districts come out, we will have them on AmazingMadison.com.
