After a Covid-19 shortened season and a wild postseason ride, the Cardinals of Dell Rapids St. Mary came up short versus Wolsey-Wessington in the 9B state title game, falling 32-14. Wolsey-Wessington jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to a quick strike offense. The Cardinals put together nice drives in the first half but stalled out a few times on fourth down.

Trailing 18-0 in the third quarter, DR St. Mary finally hit pay-dirt on a 45 yard touchdown pass from Connor Libis to Nic Gasper. The 10-point deficit would hold until the Warbirds scored on a fourth down play with just under eight minutes left in the contest. The Cardinals answered with a touchdown themselves but were unable to manufacture anything else after. Wolsey-Wessington added a late touchdown to ice the contest.

Libis finished with 133 yards on the ground and 123 passing yards with two touchdown passes.
