DSU held a Topping Out Ceremony

DSU held a Topping Out Ceremony on Thursday for DSU’s athletic events center. The ceremony was hosted by DSU, Hausmann Construction, the South Dakota Office of the State Engineer, and architectural firm JLG.

In building construction, a topping out event, sometimes referred to as topping off, is traditionally held when the last beam or its equivalent is placed atop a structure during construction.

The first floor will host the more functional part of the building with locker rooms, strength and conditioning rooms, as well as an athletic training room.

The second floor will host the events centers ESports Competition Center, as well as a BIo Mechanics Lab and, a hospitality area as well as a balcony with suites.

The ceremony involved attendees of the event to sign the final beam placed onto the building, also putting a tree on top of the final beam as a tradition.

The building is set to open before opening day.
