Dakota State vs Dakota Wesleyan Preview: Chamber of Commerce Traveling Trophy 2023

The Dakota State Trojans begin their season with a battle against Dakota Wesleyan on the road in Mitchell, SD.

The two teams will duke it out once again for the Chamber of Commerce Traveling Trophy. DSU has won the last six outings against the Tigers and are gunning for lucky number seven.

DWU has struggled mightily in recent years. Failing to obtain more than four wins in a season since 2017. However, they are a hungry team with some key seniors with guys like Jamin Arend at running back who will be a handful for the Trojans & Adam DeJong at linebacker. As well as a dynamic young quarterback to build with who started as a freshman in Austin Lee.

Trojans bring back key returners as well. Veterans J.J. Beck & Devonte Murphy on defense and Ortman in the backfield. All of which were all-conference selections last year.

Defense and limiting time of possession will be key in the matchup with DWU. In last year’s matchup, the Tigers had the ball for 41:27 to the Trojans just 17:25. Though DSU still came out on top, it’s not a risk worth taking again with this offense.

Kickoff is set for 7pm tonight with pregame beginning at 6:30pm on Jammin Country 103.
