OPAL R. “RAE” ERKS, 89, of Hayward, California, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, was called home to her Lord and Savior on August 20, 2020. She was born in 1930 to Opal (Moss) and Clarence Ray Sillaway. Rae was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Leslie G. Erks. She is survived by her sister, Margie Johnson, daughter Pam (Walker) and her husband, Jerry; son Rod; grandchildren, Brandon and his wife, Meghan, Ryan, Danny, Amber, Ashley and Amanda; and 6 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Sienna, Jacob, Mylie, Grant and Luke.

Rae was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and raised in Salinas, California. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Rae was an avid gardener and took great pride in her many species of roses. She was also a voracious reader and was rarely seen without a book in her hand. Rae will be missed, but certainly never forgotten. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 26th at Mission Funeral Home, 22297 Mission Blvd., Hayward between 12-5pm. Burial will be held at a future date at Rose Hill Cemetery, Wentworth, South Dakota.
