Michael Mortinsen, age 65, of Madison, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at his residence. Memorial visitation will be 5-7 PM, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the St. Andreas Cemetery, rural Oldham.

Mike was born on May 22, 1956, in Madison, to Betty and Floyd Mortinsen. He graduated from Oldham High School in 1974 and then attended Dakota State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education.

Mike really enjoyed the great outdoors. He spent a lot of time hunting, fishing, and enjoying himself at the family farm. Mike had a passion for helping and inspiring others which was evident in his teaching and coaching career, where he coached football, volleyball, and golf. Mike spent the majority of his educational career teaching and coaching in Arlington.

Grateful to have shared in his life are his brother Larry (Robin), his children Chelsy, Dane and stepson Jared, his grandchildren Hannah, Brooks, and Kennedy, his niece and nephew Toriann and Derek, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Betty and Floyd Mortinsen, his sister, Gwen Mortinsen, his grandparents, Christian Mortinsen, Nora (Swain) Peterson, Herbert and Famay (Smith) Junker, and many aunts and uncles.

Arrangements are with the Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison.
