Joan Leafstedt

Joan Leafstedt, age 61, of Sioux Falls, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 1,
2024.

Joan Margaret Treloar was born November 26, 1962 in Madison, SD, the daughter of Virgil & Mary (Hart)
Treloar. She graduated from Madison High School in 1981 and attended Stewart’s School. Joan worked
as a hairstylist for a few years before she met the love of her life, Rich. They were married on January
9th, 1987 and Joan went on to have five children within eight years and followed her true calling of
being a stay at home mother. Joan’s children have blessed her with nine (and counting) grandchildren.
We will always remember her shouts of joy every time she found out that she was going to have another
grandbaby.

Joan loved spending time with her family. Some of her favorite memories included summer days at Wild
Water West and vacations to the Black Hills. When Joan was not busy with her children and
grandchildren, you could find her relaxing in her recliner watching murder mysteries with a glass of Diet
Coke and her beloved dog Meeka on her lap.
Joan was a loving wife to her husband Rich for 37 years. They were best friends and you would rarely
see one without the other. They enjoyed spontaneous road trips, but their favorite trips were always to
the Black Hills.

Joan will be missed by her husband Rich; five children-Natasha (Will) Clay, Nick (Kelsey) Leafstedt, Abby
(Sellina) Leafstedt, Justine (James) Oates and Paige (Andrew) Wilson; nine grandchildren; one sister-Jean
(Ray) Wenk; two brothers-Jim Treloar & Jack (Vicki) Treloar and mother-in-law Mary Ann Leafstedt. Joan
was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bill Treloar.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 8th at St. Michael’s Church, 1600 S. Marion Road in Sioux Falls,
from 5-7pm. A prayer service and rosary to follow. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 9th at
10:30am at St. Michael’s Church. Lunch will be served after. Private family burial to follow. Online
