Ella Van Emmerik

Ella Adella (Schmeichel) Van Emmerik, 89, passed away on September 8, 2022 at Canistota Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Monday, September 12 at Christ Lutheran Church in Salem. Visitation with family present will begin at 6 pm on Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 pm, at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Ella was born near Dolton SD on November 18, 1932 to Gottlieb and Adella (Heibel) Schmeichel. She graduated from Salem High School in 1951. She married Leonard Van Emmerik on Dec 10, 1951 and celebrated their 70^th wedding anniversary in 2021. Along with farming with her husband Leonard she worked at K&K in Salem, Auditors office of McCook County, Bailiff , Krantz Chevrolet, and Green Thumb in Sioux Falls. She retired November 1, 1997. She enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing and quilting.  Each child and grandchild received a unique quilt made especially for them. The grandchildren and great-grand children delighted in going to her house for fresh buns and cookies.

She is survived by her husband Leonard and following children- Jim (Nancy) of Longmont, Co, Dwayne (Carol) of Salem, Marilyn (Steve) Konda of Marion, and Debbie ( Kirk) Grahek of Rapid City, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Albin Schmeichel, one sister, Adeline Buechler and one son Don.
