Dean Royer

Dean Ray Royer, 71, of Arlington, passed away on Wednesday, September 7th, 2022, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, from injuries sustained in an accident on August 29, 2022.
Dean was born on May 31, 1951, to Russell & Mavis (Nelson) Royer. Dean attended grade school at District 38 Country School, which was later reorganized into the Arlington School District. He graduated from Arlington High School with the Class of 1969. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington.

Dean worked odd jobs for a few years & then went with some friends to Alaska to work on the Pipeline. Once he returned, he had numerous jobs over the years, usually driving truck. He was currently employed at Prairie Ag Partners in Arlington.

He married Brenda Spilde on September 3, 1978. To this union, his two daughters were born: Riahnnon Kay & Lindsey Rae. Dean married Norma Zeeck on December 22, 2003, at their home in Arlington. Dean then became “Pops” to Norma’s boys. Dean & Norma enjoyed riding motorcycles in their younger years & in more recent years, spending time with their kids and grandkids. Dean was also “Dad” or “Uncle Deano” to a host of other “kids” who became family to him over the years. When he wasn’t working, you could usually find him tinkering in his garage, tending to his garden, or sitting on his patio, enjoying the weather with a cigarette & a cold beer. If you knew Deano, as he was commonly referred to, you’re sure to have a story or two of something fun you did together. He was known for his witty comments & funny stories from days gone by.

Dean is survived by his wife, Norma Royer of Arlington, his children & grandchildren: Riahnnon Stormo (Kelly Olsen) of Hayti & their children: Hailey Rae & Carson Dean Stormo and Morgan & Lauren Olsen; Lindsey Rettedal (Shawn) of Sioux Falls & their children: Leighton Ella & Presley Rae Rettedal; Terry Norgaard of Alaska & his daughter: Brittani Norgaard; Travis Norgaard & his children; and Tony Norgaard of Brookings & his children: TJ & Atina Norgaard; his bonus son, Eric Henderson of Arlington & his daughter: Trinity Henderson; his brother Dale Royer of Arlington, his Aunt Beverly Nelson of Sioux Falls, his sister-in-law, Jan Cromwell of Arlington, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

He is preceded in death by this parents, Russell & Mavis Royer, an infant sister, Ruth, his grandparents: Detleph & Ella Nelson and Charles & Ella Royer, his sister-in-law, Diane Royer, and his in laws Gladys Anderson and Cliff Zeeck.
