First multisystem inflammatory syndrome case reported in SD

The State Department of Health reported on Thursday the state’s first case of multisystem inflammatory syndrome.  State Epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton said that the case was identified in someone under the age of 18 in East River South Dakota, but did not provide any further details about the case.  In a media briefing Thursday, Clayton described what is known about this syndrome.

Dr. Clayton says they are trying to get a better understanding of the link between the syndrome and COVID-19.

The CDC says they know that many children with this syndrome had the virus that causes COVID-19, or had been around someone with COVID-19.  This syndrome can be serious, even deadly, but most children who were diagnosed with the condition have gotten better with medical care.
