State announces funding for more than $1B in water and wastewater projects

The South Dakota Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved over a billion dollars in funding for more than 90 water and wastewater projects across the state.  That includes projects in our area in Madison, Salem, Arlington, Volga, as well as rural water system projects, some of which include the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, Kingbrook Rural Water System, and Big Sioux Community Water system.

State Department of Ag and Natural Resources Secretary Hunter Roberts said it’s applying huge amounts of federal funding.

Roberts said these are long-life investments.

Roberts said projects were approved on a priority basis.

The one-point-one billion dollars includes more than four-hundred million dollars in grants and six-hundred-eighty-eight million in low interest loans.

Roberts said they have until 2026 to spend all the funds.
