SD School Districts Now Able to Use Student Teachers in Expanded Roles

South Dakota school districts will be able to use student teachers in some expanded roles this fall after action by a legislative committee.

Kathryn Blaha with the Department of Education asked the Rules Review Committee to approve rules allowing student teachers expanded duties…..

Education Department Secretary Joe Graves says it’s a move to keep more teachers in the state….

Graves says the rules change would give school districts more options….

The student teachers would work under the supervision of an experienced mentor.

The rules were approved by the committee unanimously.
