SD Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources Announces Water Project Grants

The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources has announced the Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved over 90-million dollars in grants and loans for drinking water, wastewater, storm water, and solid waste projects in South Dakota.

Projects include Chester Sanitary District, which received a $2.3 million loan, with $1.4 million in principle forgiveness to demolish its existing water tower and construct a new 75,000-gallon water tower.

The city of Dell Rapids received a $845,000 loan and a $455,000 grant to make sanitary and storm water improvements. 

Dell Rapids also received an $800,000 loan to replace aging and undersized water main.  

Salem received a $1.4 million loan and a $2 million grant to replace clay sanitary sewer collection mains, services, and manholes within the western portion of the city. Salem also received a $1.4 million loan to replace cast iron pipe and asbestos cement pipe water distribution mains. 

The Consolidated Water Facilities Construction Program is funded in part by revenues from the Petroleum Release Compensation Tank Inspection fee and the sale of lottery tickets.Â
