Madison Police report alerts from new cameras led to three arrests this week

While the Madison Police Department continues to have Flock Safety install automated license plate reading cameras throughout the city, the ones in place currently have already been doing their job.  Police made a total of three arrests earlier this week in connection with two stolen vehicles that were in the city of Madison.  Police Chief Justin Meyer said that the cameras scan the license plates of vehicles passing by them to see if they match information in a national database.

This was the case on Monday afternoon, Meyer said, when a stolen vehicle passed by one of the cameras located at Northeast 3rd Street and Prairie Avenue in Madison.

Meyer said that the vehicle was reported stolen from Monticello, Minnesota just after 9:30 Monday morning.  He said both the driver and the passenger of the stolen vehicle were arrested Monday afternoon on various charges.

Meyer said the same camera alerted officers on Tuesday morning of another stolen vehicle.

Meyer said that 33-year-old Ariana Farmer of Sioux Falls was taken into custody in connection with that stolen vehicle.

Chief Meyer said that it’s good to know that the cameras are doing what they are supposed to do for the city.

Meyer said that Flock Safety will install a total of 25 cameras throughout the city for 90 days in order for the police department to determine where the best locations for them are at, and then they will go back to having ten cameras total.
