Governor signs bill in support of new DSU athletic facilities

Governor Kristi Noem has signed a number of bills from this year’s legislative session into law.  One of the bills Noem signed Thursday is House Bill 1021, which has to do with Dakota State University’s new athletics facilities.  The bill gives expenditure authority to the state Board of Regents to acquire property and contract for the design and construction of the athletic facility at DSU.

DSU officials announced recently that 45-million dollars has been raised for the new DSU athletics facilities.  The university is planning to start moving forward with phase one of the Athletics Events Center, which will include an upgraded football stadium, relocated track, e-sports arena, soccer field, and more.

The anticipated timeline for Phase One – DSU’s Athletics Events Center – includes the track being completed for the spring 2023 track season, the Athletics Event Center being completed in the spring of 2023, and the football field completed for football season 2024.

The fundraising process will continue for this project with a final goal of one-hundred million dollars to complete all of the project.
