The state Department of Health reported 39 more COVID-19 deaths in the state since Wednesday.  This brings the total number of virus-related deaths in the state to 888 as of Friday.  Five of the deaths are residents of area counties, including four in McCook County and one in Kingsbury County.  

The state also reported another 2138 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the state’s overall total to more than 78-thousand.  The number of active cases in the state increased to more than 16-thousand on Friday, and 569 people are currently hospitalized because of the virus.

Lake County reported 39 new positive COVID-19 cases Friday, along with 15 recovered cases.  The county now has had a total of 844 positive cases, 632 recovered, and ten deaths.  Lake County currently has 202 active cases, and 31 people have ever been hospitalized. 

Area counties also reported an increase in the number of active cases.  McCook County reported 135 active COVID-19 cases Friday, Kingsbury had 109, and Moody County had 100 active cases.  Miner County reported 30 active COVID-19 cases as of yesterday, and Brookings County had 430.
