Collett Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison

A 43-year old man was sentenced to the state penitentiary Tuesday in Lake County Circuit Court. Eugene Collett had previously pleaded guilty to having sexual contact with a person incapable of giving consent, which is a Class 4 felony. The criminal activity occurred between November 8th and 25th of 2021, when Collett entered the bedroom of a minor while the victim was sleeping, and touched the victim. 

Circuit Court Judge Patrick Pardy sentenced Collett to 8 years in the State Penitentiary. 5 years of the sentence were suspended based on a number of conditions, including that Collett pay certain fines and costs, have no contact with the victim, and register as a sex offender.
