The city of Madison’s water rates will not increase for next year.  City commissioners on Monday approved first reading of the city’s ordinance establishing the city’s water rates and charges.  Utility Director Brad Lawrence explained some of the changes made within the ordinance itself, but said that in the end, the totals will remain the same.

Lawrence said that they made some other changes in some of the wording within the ordinance, and included a breakdown of where some of the money from the water rates is being spent.  Mayor Marshall Dennert said that will be helpful for city residents.

Lawrence said that the totals from the water rates don’t change for next year, but the ordinance spells out what the money is earmarked for.  He said they are hoping to do the same thing for the sewer rates next year.
