City of Madison awarded loans and grants for water and wastewater projects

The City of Madison has been awarded a loan and grant as part of the state Board of Water and Natural Resources’ more than one-billion dollars in funding for drinking water and wastewater projects.

The City of Madison received a close to three-point-three-million dollar Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan and a more than one-point-nine-million dollar ARPA grant to replace and rehabilitate clay sanitary sewer collection piping and brick manholes in approximately eighteen city blocks.  According to the state, the city is also replacing and adding storm sewer inlets and piping to improve collection and conveyance of storm sewer in areas where other water and sanitary utility improvements are scheduled.

The City of Madison also received a more than seven-point-three-million dollar Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan and a more than four-point-three-million dollar ARPA grant to replace poor and undersized water mains in approximately 34 city blocks.  They are also proposing to install a new water main to provide a loop across Highway 34 to improve system hydraulics and water service.

Local ARPA funds will also support the city’s project costs.Â
