A Milbank company has been awarded the bid for one of the first phases of the city’s water system improvement project.  Madison City Commissioners on Monday awarded the bid for this portion of the city’s Rural Development project to J&J Earthworks of Milbank for close to four-point-three-million dollars.

City Engineer Chad Comes explained to commissioners what the project bid covers.

Comes said that there had been six bids for the project, with J&J Earthworks having the low bid.  He said the bid is also well below the engineer’s estimate for the project.

Commissioner Jeremiah Corbin said the city has been working for a while to get to this point in the project.

Commissioners Monday awarded the bid for the project contingent upon Rural Development’s approval as well.
