The state’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program has approved grants for twelve applicants within the city of Madison stemming from flooding in 2019.  Madison Mayor Marshall Dennert said during the Madison City Commission meeting Monday that the city is sponsoring the twelve applicants that have been approved for structures to be acquired and demolished within city limits in the Special Flood Hazard Area.  Dennert said that the city has to sign and return a sub-recipient agreement and environmental report to the state Office of Emergency Management for each of the applicants.  He said that after all of the paperwork has been completed between the city and the state, then the applicants will get a letter notifying them of the next steps in the process.  Dennert said that at that point, applicants can choose whether or not they want to continue with the program.  He said then the process can move forward as far as the demolition of the properties.
