Brookings educator presented Milken Award

A Brookings educator was presented a 25-thousand dollar Milken Award on Wednesday.

Camrin Vaux, a 5th grade teacher at Camelot Intermediate School in Brookings, was surprised with the award at an all-school assembly Wednesday.  Vaux is an alumnus of Dakota State University in Madison.  She received her bachelor’s degree from DSU in 2006 and her master’s of education from South Dakota State University in 2012.

South Dakota Department of Education Secretary Tiffany Sanderson was on hand to help make the special presentation to Vaux Wednesday.

Vaux is among more than 60 educators nationwide who will receive the Award during the 2021-22 school year. There are no restrictions on how the recipients use the money.

This is the second Milken Award winner in South Dakota announced this week.  Nichole Bowman, a high school math teacher at Pierre, received the award on Tuesday. Â
