$45 million raised for DSU Athletics facilities

A total of 45-million dollars has been raised for new athletics facilities at Dakota State University in Madison.

The first phase of the athletic facilities required more than 35-million dollars to move forward.  DSU Athletics Director Jeff Dittman said during a special event at the DSU Fieldhouse Monday that phase one of the project includes the development of the university’s Athletics Events Center.

Dittman said that the upgraded facilities will lead to an increase in student athletes, with a goal of more than six-hundred by the time it is completed.

Along with increased student enrollment and academic programs, DSU President José-Marie Griffiths said that the upgraded facilities are an investment in the Madison community.

Additional priorities to be addressed include an arena for basketball and volleyball, an indoor track and training facility, an outdoor plaza, and baseball and softball fields.

Dittman said that the development of this complex will enable DSU to compete consistently for conference titles and national championships.

The anticipated timeline for Phase One – DSU’s Athletics Events Center – includes the track being completed for the spring 2023 track season, the Athletics Event Center being completed in the spring of 2023, and the football field completed for football season 2024.

The fundraising process will continue for this project with a final goal of one-hundred million dollars to complete all of the project.
