It was an electric evening in Howard as the Tigers hosted the Bulldogs of DeSmet in a doubleheader, with the visiting Bulldogs coming out on top in both of the Varsity games.

On the girls side, DeSmet jumped out to a 12-2 advantage after the first quarter. Howard’s offense woke up in the second, thanks to 10 points from Hilary Albrecht, as it was a 21-17 advantage for the Bulldogs at the break. Much like the first quarter, the third quarter was dominated by DeSmet who held a 38-26 lead after three quarters. The Tigers would not go quietly into the night, as one again Albrecht led the charge, helping Howard pull within one late. The Bulldogs were able to get a pair of free throws to ice the game late and escaped with a hard fought 46-43 win.

Albrecht had a game high 27 points for Howard and DeSmet was led by Autumn Wilkinson who had 16 points and Kennadi Buchholz added 13 in the win.

Howard’s Jake Brooks, who had a game high 24 points, picked up a couple of buckets early in the fourth and helped the Tigers pull even at 44 all around half way through the fourth. DeSmet would score the next five points and salted the game away at the charity stripe, winning 52-48.

Kalen Garry led DeSmet with 23 points and Troy Holland had 11, Brooks was the consistent offense on the evening for Howard. DeSmet’s teams are both ranked second in the latest Polls while Howard’s teams are receiving votes.
