Pursuit suspects indicted by Lake County grand jury

A Lake County Grand Jury has now indicted the two suspects arrested in connection with a high-speed pursuit and officer-involved shooting that ended in Madison on July 14th.

40-year-old James Lanpher, Jr. of Sioux Falls and 45-year-old Bonner Juel of Harrisburg have been indicted on two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, with alternate counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.  Lanpher and Juel also have been charged with two counts of commission of a felony while armed with a firearm, and Habitual offender charges have also been filed against both men.

The incident took place July 14th, starting in Minnehaha County and going through Moody and Lake Counties before coming to an end in Madison.  There were no injuries in the incident.

A Lake County grand jury issued the indictments on July 20th in the afternoon after Lanpher and Juel each made their initial appearances in Lake County Magistrate Court before Magistrate Judge Bob Pesall that same morning.  The two men remain in the Lake County Jail in Madison with bond now set at 100-thousand dollars cash each.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the incident investigation.
