As high temperatures continue to drop this fall, the number of households in the state that have been approved for home heating assistance have increased.

David Gall, who administers the program for the South Dakota Department of Social Services, said all of the money for low-income heating assistance is provided by the federal government.

Gall says the heating assistance program is income-based.

Gall says there is still plenty of time for people to apply.

Gall says last winter, close to 21-thousand-500 South Dakota households were approved for home heating assistance.
