County to improve security measures within Public Safety Building

Lake County is taking steps to improve security measures within the county’s Public Safety Building.  Sheriff Tim Walburg met with county commissioners this week to discuss security improvements, including updating the camera system within the building. He said that the ideas for improvements came about as part of a bigger project by the Unified Judicial System to prioritize safety and security in courthouses and public safety facilities.

Walburg said that Reliance Telephone currently handles the phone, visitation and camera system in the Sheriff’s Office and Jail, but he said that they are not interested in doing more with updating the camera system.  Walburg said he then checked with Mark Smith with Pro Satellite of Madison and got a quote from him on doing the needed updates to the camera system within the building.

Walburg said that Smith’s quote for the project is close to 45-thousand dollars.

He said the security improvements will be funded by using liquor tax reversion revenue that was previously assigned to Public Safety Building projects.
