City’s water system improvement projects progressing; water tower delayed to next year

There are several water system improvement projects in progress within the city of Madison, and Madison City Commissioners received an update on the work during their meeting last week.  Ryan Hegg, Madison’s Director of Engineering and Community Development, said there are four different projects going on currently – Phase 1A and 1B, along with Phase 2 and a water tower project.

Hegg said that Phase 1A is a utility and surfacing project in the northwest area of the city.  He said it’s a 23-block project area that started in 2020.  Hegg told city commissioners there are a few things left to be done, but that this project should be completed within the next couple of months.

Hegg said Phase 1B of the project is a 21-block area also in the northwest area of the city.  He said that project began in 2021 and should be completed by later this fall.

Work being done in the northeast area of the city is Phase 2 of the city’s water system improvement project, which also began last year.  Hegg said this includes water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and surfacing in the 20-block project area.  He told city commissioners that there is some concern with this project meeting its completion dates this fall.

Hegg said the project that will not be able to be completed this year is the city’s new water tower, located in the Lakeview Industrial Park.  He told commissioners that the tank for the water tower received significant damage in the May 12th storm and needs to be rebuilt.

Hegg said that completion of the new water tower is now estimated for November of 2023.

More information on the city’s projects can be found on the City of Madison’s website.
