The Trojans were swept in a non conference volleyball match against Morningside College Wednesday. The Mustangs won 25-23, 25-11 and 27-25. Dakota State, who returned back to the Midwest area after their tournament in Florida last weekend, dropped to 2-3 overall. Morningside led from the beginning to the end of the opening set with a 25-23 victory. The Trojans couldn’t complete their comeback at the end after trailing 24-20. Morningside dominated the 2nd set after cruising to a 22-9 lead. Trailing 16-11 in the third set, Dakota State mounted a rally by scoring 6 consecutive points for their 1st lead of the match at 17-16, thanks to 4 straight service aces from Tessa Weeldreyer. Leading 24-23, the Mustangs were able to save DSU’s set point and scored 2 straight points to grab a 25-24 and forced the Trojans to call timeout. After a kill by Trojan Alicia Karst to tie the third set at 25-25, the Mustangs secured the match after a pair of kills by for a 27-25 victory. Carly Rozell led the Trojans with 7 kill on the night. Rachel Johnson produced 13 set assists and Chelsey Davis collected 12 digs. The Trojans will look to bounce back facing another GPAC opponent next Wednesday when they travel to Orange City Iowa to face Northwestern College.
