Wood Ducks Just Keep Winning in the Postseason

The Hartford-Humboldt Wood Ducks won a total of two games during the regular season, and entered the District 4B tournament as the lowest seed. That didn’t stop them from winning two games to qualify for their first ever State Tournament. Now they’ve won two games at State, and moved into the Class B quarterfinals, after an 8-5 win over Elkton on Monday.

The Wood Ducks scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. Elk Point rallied with two runs in the 4th and the 5th to go up by a run, and then gave the lead to reliever Isaac Beeck. But he recorded just one out, as the Wood Ducks scored 5 runs in the 5th inning to take the lead back for good.

Rayce Whiting finished with 2 RBI for the Wood Ducks. Logan Larsen, Braden Herr and Brodie Herr also had RBI hits.

The Wood Ducks will take on Platte in the quarterfinals on Thursday night, after Platte’s walk-off 2-1 win over Alexandria Monday.

The second round continues tonight at Cadwell Park in Mitchell, as the Canova Gang take on Kimball/White Lake at 5:30, on AM 1390. Dells PBR will then play Milbank at 8pm on Jammin Country 103.1FM.
