Trojans Take down the Tigers to win back the Chamber of Commerce Cup

Brian Kern Family Stadium is 1-0. The Dakota State University Trojans wasted no time giving their hometown fans a win at the all new stadium, defeating Dakota Wesleyan 34-3 on Thursday Night.

Carson Sauseda got into the record books as the first player to score a point at the new stadium, when he connected for a 52-yard field goal in the 1st quarter. The score would stay 3-0 until late in the 2nd quarter, when the Trojans took advantage of a fumble recovery by driving for a 1 yard touchdown run from Tyce Ortman. Sauseda then added another field goal and DSU led 13-0 at halftime.

The Trojans broke the game open in the 2nd half. Ortman added two more TD runs, and Melek Ford caught a 47 yard TD pass from Tray Hettick. DSU also picked off 3 passes in the 2nd half to seal the win.

The Trojan offense racked up 375 total yards, while the defense forced 5 turnovers.

Trojan coach Josh Anderson said that after last year’s disappointing season, the Trojans couldn’t wait to take the field this year.
