Trojans Take down the Tigers to win back the Chamber of Commerce Cup
Brian Kern Family Stadium is 1-0. The Dakota State University Trojans wasted no time giving their hometown fans a win at the all new stadium, defeating Dakota Wesleyan 34-3 on Thursday Night.Â
Carson Sauseda got into the record books as the first player to score a point at the new stadium, when he connected for a 52-yard field goal in the 1st quarter. The score would stay 3-0 until late in the 2nd quarter, when the Trojans took advantage of a fumble recovery by driving for a 1 yard touchdown run from Tyce Ortman. Sauseda then added another field goal and DSU led 13-0 at halftime.Â
The Trojans broke the game open in the 2nd half. Ortman added two more TD runs, and Melek Ford caught a 47 yard TD pass from Tray Hettick. DSU also picked off 3 passes in the 2nd half to seal the win.Â
The Trojan offense racked up 375 total yards, while the defense forced 5 turnovers.Â
Trojan coach Josh Anderson said that after last year’s disappointing season, the Trojans couldn’t wait to take the field this year.Â
The Trojans will travel to Nebraska Wesleyan next Saturday, September 7th, then return to Brian Kern Family Stadium September 14th for Trojan Days.
