Trojans Set to Host Senior Night at Home Against the Blue Hawks: Game Preview #10 Dakota State vs Dickinson State
The #10 ranked Trojan Women’s Basketball team (22-5 overall, 9-1 NSAA) will host Senior Night and their last home game of the regular season in the DSU Fieldhouse against Dickinson State.
Dakota State has three seniors on this year’s team – those being Miakken Vincent, Morgan Huber and Savannah Walsdorf. This group has produced numerous records in their time at DSU and have spent their entire college career as Trojans. Including winning regular and postseason titles, being a part of various win streaks during their tenure, various trips to the National Tournament and dominant conference record. Over the last five seasons, they have a 58-9 record in North Star Athletic Association play and 47-4 in the last four seasons.
The seniors will be honored in the DSU Fieldhouse at the conclusion of the game between the two teams.
Dickinson State
The Blue Hawks (7-18 overall, 2-9 NSAA) are hoping for an upset win over the Trojans. They’re searching for just their second road win of the season as they sit just 1-7 on the road. The Blue Hawks haven’t defeated the Trojans since Feb. 22, 2017 in the NSAA postseason tournament when Dickinson State was ranked #21 in the NAIA.
It’s expected to be a long night for the Blue Hawks after the scoring performance DSU put on last night. Pouring on 106 points in a 106-49 rout of Valley City State. Dickinson State has dropped five of their last six games. With their lone victory coming against the Waldorf Warriors at home. Both of their conference wins are against the Warriors, falling short to every other NSAA team.
They’re led in scoring by Samantha Oase with 12.9 points per game on 51.5% shooting from the field. This team has two more players averaging double digits. Katherine Fox averages 11.2 per game and Kayden Steele adding 10.8 a game. Dickinson State averages just 58 points per game in conference and allows their opponents 71.3 points a game on average through 11 NSAA games.
Dakota State
The Trojans come into this game off of a very impressive showing at home. Dropping their second 100+ point game of the season, with both coming against Valley City State. They came away tying a season-high mark in steals with 21, which came back on Nov. 17 against this same Vikings team in the Dakota Clash.
David Moe, head coach of the Trojans, said “It was good to get back to us” in response to what he liked most about the win against VCSU. After this game, it’ll be tournament time once again. First the NSAA tournament in which the Trojans hope to come out as the number one seed for, then the National Tournament for a fourth straight year.
Dakota State has yet to lose to Dickinson State in the Moe era. He is a perfect 16-0 against DiSU. The Trojans last loss to the Blue Hawks came in the season prior to Moe joining the staff. The Trojans fell to the #21 ranked Dickinson State Blue Hawks in the opening round of the NSAA tournament, 59-45. Nearly seven full years ago did the Blue Hawks last defeat the Trojans.
DSU is led in scoring by Savannah Walsdorf who averages 16.6 points per game and now sits eighth in the NAIA in steals per game with 3.1 this season. Walsdorf is also approaching more history today. She is just 15 points shy of being the first Trojan in women’s basketball history and the second Trojan EVER to have 2,000 points or more. The other being Brett Schwartz with 2,581 points from 1987-91.
Tipoff is set for 3pm with the pregame set to begin at 2:45pm on Jammin Country 103.
