Trojan defense smothers Valley City

Dakota State Football rolled to a 4-0 start to the season on Saturday, with a 19-8 win on the road over Valley City State. The Trojan’s defense continued to flex its muscle. After powering DSU to a homecoming win the week before, the defense held the Vikings to just 181 total yards. Valley City’s only score came with under four minutes left in the game. The Trojan’s forced Valley City to punt five times in the first half and forced a turnover on downs, then opened the 2nd half with a safety.

DSU’s offense was led by Tyce Ortman, who ran for 161 yards and a touchdown. AJ Donoavn got the first start of his Trojan career, and threw for 148 yards and a score with one interception.

Dakota State’s 4-0 start to the season is their best start since 1992. Saturday’s win was just the sixth for DSU over Valley City in 36 all-time games between the schools.

Dakota State has a bye this week, and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5th  hosting Mayville State in the annual Rushin’ for a Cure football game at Brian Kern Family Stadium on Blankley Field.

Valley City State visits Mayville State this Saturday in Mayville.
