Mudcats win District 4B Title; State Tournament starts Wednesday
The Dell Rapids Mudcats won the District 4B title on Saturday, with an 8-7 win over the Canova Gang. Kris Regas had 3 hits and 2 RBI for the Mudcats, and picked up the save by striking out the final three batters of the game. Regas was also named the tournament MVP. Kole Zimmerman added 3 hits and 2 RBI for the Mudcats as well. Canova’s Cole Gassman was 3-for-4 with a home run, and 3 RBI in the loss.
Also Saturday, Dell Rapids PBR won the “Last Chance Game” to qualify for the State Tournament. PBR defeated the Colman A’s 10-0.
The Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament begins on Wednesday evening, at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. 32 teams will be vying for the Class B title, in the single elimination tournament.
The Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks will be the first Cornbelt team to play, taking on Menno, Thursday at 5:30.
Friday, the Flandreau Cardinals take on Alexandria at 11am, followed by the Mudcats vs. Platte and then Canova vs. Lesterville. Saturday at 11 it’s Dells PBR vs. Elkton, followed by the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks vs. Milbank and Salem vs. Mt. Vernon.
The tournament concludes with a championship game on Sunday, August 18th. Canova and the Dell Rapids Mudcats have combined to win four of the last six Class B Championships.
