Mudcats stop the Broncos streak in Cornbelt League
The Dell Rapids Mudcats offense was held in check for six innings, but eventually the top team in the Cornbelt let loose in a 12-1 win over the Madison Broncos. Dells scored a run in the 1st and 6th innings for a 2-0 lead, as Madison starter Tyler Tappe struck out 7 Mudcats. Madison got their only run of the game on a Dawson Bakker home run in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 2-1. But Dell Rapids finally broke through against Tappe in the 7th, tagging him for three runs in the inning. They added 4 more in the 8th and 3 in the 9th against three Madison relievers.Â
Kole Zimmerman finished the game 3-for-6 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Grant Olsen had 3 hits and 2 RBI for the Mudcats. Three Mudcats pitchers combined to strike out 13 Broncos, while allowing just 5 hits.Â
The loss snapped Madison’s 6 game winning streak. The Broncos fell to 9-8, while the Mudcats regular season ended at 17-1.Â

Keith Cutler had three hits in three at bats, as the Flandreau Cardinals beat the Salem Cubs 14-1 on Thursday night. The Cardinals opened the scoring in the 1st, with Cutlers 2 RBI single. Flandreau blew the game open with 7 runs in the 5th inning. Overall, the Cardinals banged out 14 hits, 10 of them singles, with every starter in the lineup getting at least one hit.Â
Zak Wallner was the winning pitcher, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits over 6 innings.Â

The Hartford-Humboldt Gamecocks rallied late for a 7-6 win over the Colman A’s on Thursday night. Joe Hanisch drove in the tying run in the 7th, and Ryan Healy followed with the game winning hit. Hanisch had 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI for Hartford-Humboldt. Jonah Rechtenbaugh scored twice. Nate Masloski picked up the win in relief, going 4 scoreless innings and striking out 4 Colman batters.Â

Dell Rapids PBR jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, on their way to a 12-2 win over the Hartford-Humboldt Wood Ducks on Thursday. Trey Randel picked up the win for PBR, allowing just 2 unearned runs over his 6 innings of work. He gave up 6 hits and struck out 12. Drew Sweeter had 2 hits, 2 RBI and scored twice for Dell Rapids. Matt Gillogly also had 2 hits with 2 runs scored. Brayden Odegaard led the Wood Ducks with 3 hits.
