Mudcats head into State as District Champions

The Dell Rapids Mudcats won the District 4B Tournament on Saturday, with a 9-3 win over the Canova Gang. The Mudcats opened the scoring with four runs in the 3rd inning, including a 2-run home run from Cole Zimmerman. They added four more runs in the 5th to pull away for the win. Mark Abrahamsen had 3 hits, and pitched a complete game for Dell Rapids.Â
Also Saturday, Dell Rapids PBR won the final elimination game of the tournament, knocking out Salem 3-2. Both starters went the distance for their teams. Tyler Earls took the loss, after allowing 3 runs on 9 hits, with 7 strikeouts. Brett Mogan allowed just 2 unearned runs over 9 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 8.Â
The Class B State Baseball Tournament starts this Wednesday, at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Seven teams from the Corn Belt League are part of the 32 team field.Â
Lennox will open the tournament Wednesday at 5:30 against Milbank, followed by Flandreau vs. Lake Norden.Â
The Mudcats will play the LCW Dirt Devils Thursday at 1pm. Friday at 5:30, the Canova Gang will battle Elkton. And the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks will take on Crofton Saturday at 1:00pm.
The final opening round games will be played on Sunday, starting with Dell Rapids PBR vs. the Parkston Mudcats at 11am, followed by Madison vs. Volga.Â
