Monetary Fallout From Cancellation of March Madness/Spring Sports for NCAA

While the cancellation of “March Madness”, or the NCAA Tournament, has left many fans feeling blue, it also had an impact on D1 Schools across the board. Along with the cancellation of Spring Sports, the NCAA will be budgeting out about $225 million to each Division One school, to focus on supporting college athletes. Original numbers had the revenue distribution number closer to $600 million.

In its decision, the NCAA’s Board of Governors stressed the importance of using the distributions to aid college athletes during the uncertainty of the current environment, along with the importance of planning carefully with less revenue.
