The Madison Bulldogs set the tone early on Tuesday by dominating the first set, on their way to a 3-0 win over Parkston in the opening round of the Region 5A playoffs. Madison broke away from the Trojans quickly in the opening set, using a long run at the service line from Briana Steuerwald, winning the set by a score of 25-9.

Parkston, who came into the match with the best record of any #6 seed in the state, was much more competitive in the 2nd and 3rd sets. The blocking of Maggie Baumgart and Brielle Bruening helped to slow down the Bulldogs attack. Despite the improved defense, Madison still controlled the pace of the match, winning the 2nd and 3rd sets by the scores of 25-16, and 25-22.

Abby Brooks had 10 kills for the Bulldogs. Grace Nelson filled the stat sheet with 9 kills, 3 aces and 14 assists. Kendra Leighton added 12 digs and 3 aces for the Bulldogs.

Madison will hit the road for the next round of the playoffs, traveling to Wagner to take on the Red Raiders. That match can be heard on Thursday night at 7pm on AM 1390, plus the video stream at AmazingMadison.com
