Madison Black Advances to State VFW Baseball Tournament

The Madison Black 14U baseball team is headed to State, after claiming the Region 5A VFW championship with a 3-2 walk-off win over Dell Rapids on Wednesday. 

With the score tied at two in the bottom of the seventh, Levi Nelson reached on an error, Bryaylon Oftedal followed with a single to put the winning run at 2nd base. An intentional walk to Brennon Bickett loaded the bases, and brought Tyler Olson to the plate. With two outs, Olson delivered the game winning hit to left, and sent Madison Black to the VFW State Tournament. 

Bickett finished the game with 2 hits, including a solo home run. Boyd Pooler also had 2 hits and an RBI for Madison. Jade Wilkens threw 5 innings for Madison, allowing just 1 run while striking out 8. Oftedal picked up the win in relief. 

Madison now moves on to the State A VFW Baseball tournament, hosted by Elk-Point Jefferson, July 21st-23rd.
