Larson with record setting day at State Track Meet
Emery Larson has already had a great weekend at Howard Wood after Thursday. The Chester Area Sophomore was part of the Flyer girls winning Medley Relay team on the first day of the State Track & Field Meet in Sioux Falls. But she wasn’t done at the top of the podium.
Friday Larson won the Class B girls 3,200 meter race, and did so with a new meet record. Larson’s time of 10:53.66 shattered a class B state record that had stood for over 20 years. The previous record of 11:02.24 was set by Melinda Zirbel of Summit in 2003.
Also Friday, Larson added a personal record in the 800 meter run, finishing 2nd with a time of 2:19.42. Her Chester Area teammate finished 4th in that race, also with a personal best time of 2:24.75.
The Flyer girls now sit in 1st place as a team heading into Saturday’s final day of competition. Chester has 33 points, with Burke and Ipswich tied for 2nd with 26 points.
