Lady Bulldogs Look to Play Spoilers: Game Preview – Madison vs Elk Point-Jefferson

The Madison Lady Bulldogs return to the court again this weekend as they’re set to host Elk Point-Jefferson in the Madison High School Gym.

The Lady Bulldogs are 0-1 overall so far and Elk Point-Jefferson is 1-0 overall. Madison had a tough time with this group last season when they matched up in each other’s opening contest. EPJ defeated Madison 66-33.

Elk Point-Jefferson

The Lady Huskies come into this game with a win under their belt already after defeating Canton, 49-37 on the road. This team is no slouch and knows how to move the basketball. Active on both ends of the floor and they take advantage of mistakes and spread around the scoring. Elk Point-Jefferson snatched away 15 steals in their opener vs Canton. An area where they struggle so far, is shooting the ball. Shooting below 30% from the field (29%) and from deep in their opener (29%).

Jeff Neuharth is the head coach of the Lady Huskies in his second season. He led EPJ to a 11-10 record last year in his inaugural season.

Madison

The Lady Bulldogs come into this game looking to snatch win number one tonight against a tough opponent. Madison has some things to clean up coming into this game. One main one being those turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs had 27 turnovers in game one on Thursday night, with three players having five or more turnovers.

With a team like EPJ coming to town, you most certainly can’t turn it over that many times if you want to come away with a win. Protecting the ball is the name of the game today. Another point, which was mentioned by head coach Maxine Unterbrunner in the Mustang Seed postgame show following Thursday’s game, is that the shooters need to shoot. Too many looks were passed up by outside shooters last time out and Madison is going to need those shots hoisted up this time.

Audrey Nelson led the way for the Lady Bulldogs against Dell Rapids with a 15-point & 10-rebound double-double. Looking to do damage again in this game, but hopefully with some better looks to score. Which, in part, will come from her shooters on the outside taking the shots. The Lady Bulldogs defense got 20+ turnovers from Dell Rapids and will look to give the Lady Huskies that same type of trouble defensively.

The game is set to tipoff at 3:30pm with our pregame scheduled for 3:20pm on AM 1390 Dakotas Best.
