Lady Bulldogs Fail to Get Past Garretson & Season Comes to an End
The Madison Lady Bulldogs made the No. 2 seed Garretson sweat in the Quarterfinals of Region 3A, but fell short on the road, 46-38.
Madison’s season comes to an end and they finish the year 3-18 overall and 1-5 in Region 3A. It was a tough season for Madison, coming away with one less win than the previous season. They’ll graduate five seniors who played the bulk of the minutes this year so next year’s rotation could be an interesting one.
It was a back and forth game between the two teams and not a blowout by any means when one thinks of a seven versus two seed matchup. Madison trailed by just one after the opening quarter 11-10. Then Garretson made the first run of the game and dominated the second quarter 19-3 when Madison ran their subs in most of the quarter. Then went into halftime with a commanding lead of 30-13.
Seeming down and out going into the break, didn’t end up being the case and the Lady Bulldogs rallied and railed off a 14-2 run to begin the third quarter. They ended up winning it 18-10 and crept their way back. With Audrey Nelson and Ella Peterreins combining for 12 of the 18 in the third for Madison. Making it 40-31 through three quarters and very much a game again.
Scoring slowed for both teams late in the game and they combined for just 13 total points in the fourth. Not enough continued offense for Madison, along with some turnovers and questionable shot selection. They battled and got as close as within four, but couldn’t get shots to fall.
Leading in scoring for Garretson was Taylor Benson with 12 points, followed by Sydney Olson with 11 points. The Lady Blue Dragons got to the line for 17 foul shots and connected on 14 of them. On the Madison side, Nelson led the way in scoring with 15 points.
Conclusion
The Region 3A Tournament continues on, but their time in season has run out. Another nine months until the girls resume practice for next season. We’ll see what the Lady Bulldogs look like next year without the seniors we’re so used to seeing. You can catch Lady Bulldogs action again next season on AM 1390 Dakotas Best and AmazingMadison.com.
