DSU Volleyball Finding a Groove

Dakota State volleyball had a successful weekend of games and took down their first ranked opponent of the season, finishing the College of Saint Mary (Neb.) Labor Day Classic with three wins and one loss.
The Trojans were playing dominant volleyball through three games in the Labor Day Classic. They didn’t allow a fifth set in the first three games and swept Bethel (Kan.) 3-0 in their second game.Â
The other two wins came against Dordt (Iowa) in game one and the other vs No. 17 Jamestown (N.D.), who was last year’s NAIA National Champion, 3-1 in their final win. That win snapped a 27-match losing streak by DSU in the series. Ultimately falling to Mount Mercy (Iowa) 3-1 in the last game. Though, the team seems to be finding its groove ahead of conference play. Which begins against Bellevue (Neb.) a week from tomorrow.
With the success from the weekend, junior Sydney Schell was named a Player-of-the-Week for the North Star Athletic Association as an Attacker. She racked up 85 kills (4.3 per set) over the course of the week. It is the second player-of-the-week award for a DSU player this season.
They’ll be back in action again soon with the Viterbo (Wis.) Tournament coming up this Friday. It’ll feature a pair of ranked opponents waiting for the Trojans in No. 11 Columbia (Mo.) & No. 10 Montana Tech, plus a third game against William Penn (Iowa) to round out the tournament.
