DSU rolled to a 2-0 start Saturday, with a 41-25 win over Nebraska Wesleyan

DSU scored on their first play from scrimmage, and racked up over 400 yards, in a 41-25 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday night. JerQon Conners started the fun in Nebraska with a 44-yard kick-off return to the Wesleyan 48-yard line.  Then Tray Hettick connected to Austin Lake for a 48-yard touchdown to go up 7-0 just seconds into the game. 

In the 2nd quarter Hettick connected with Melek Ford for a 41-yard touchdown.Tyce Ortman would add a big TD run of 29 yards, and DSU would lead 38-6 in the 3rd quarter before Nebraska Wesleyan added 3 TD’s in the 4th quarter. 

Tray Hettick completed 18 of 26 passes for 233 yards and 4 touchdowns. Ortman ran for 89 yards and score, while Preston Iverson added 74 yards on the ground. Lake finished with 4 receptions for 86 yards and TD. Tysen Grinde caught two passes for 23 yards, including an 18 yard score. 

DSU’s defense forced three turnovers, as Collin Brueggeman, Kaden Eng, and Blake Duran each had a interception. The Trojan’s also held NWU to just 62 yards on the ground. 

Dakota State won on the road for the first time in two years, and has a 2-0 start for the first time since 2014. The Trojans will be back at home this Saturday for their Homecoming game against Jamestown. That will also mark the start of the 8 game conference season.
