DSU Football Ends Season With A Win

The Dakota State Football team wrapped up their season on Saturday with a wire-to-wire road win over Presentation College 31-29. The Trojans recovered a short pooch kick to open up the game and marched down the field, punching in the football with a two-yard touchdown run by Brodie Frederiksen. It was the 15th rushing touchdown of the season for Frederiksen, tying the single season school record. After forcing a three-and-out defensively, DSU scored again, this time a 15-yard touchdown pass from Torren Devericks to Roger Moore. The Saints would get on the board their next drive, but the PAT was no good and it was 14-6 after one quarter.

A few minutes into the second quarter, Safety Jordan Thomas came up with his third pick of the season and on the first play on offense, Devericks found Moore for a 31 yard touchdown strike. Both sides would add a field goal over the final nine minutes of the first half, as it was 24-9 at the break.

In the second half, Presentation’s offense moved the ball effectively. Their first drive, they fumbled the ball inside the 20 yard line and Riley Janke recovered for DSU. The Trojans punted the ball away and the Saints answered with a 37 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 24-16. Late in the third quarter, Dakota State engineered a scoring drive, getting a razzle-dazzle touchdown pass from Cooper McDermott to Devericks and the extra point was good, making it a 31-16 contest.

Presentation would score on their next drive and then got a pick-six defensively to trim the lead to 31-29 with five minutes left. The Saints two point conversion was no good. DSU had to punt the ball away on their next possession, but the defensive came up with a stop on fourth down near mid-field and two kneel downs iced the contest.

The Saints outgained the Trojans offensively, 335 to 314. Frederiksen ended his Trojan tenure as the schools all-time leading rusher (3,487 yards) and as mentioned, tied the single season touchdown rushing record (15). DSU ended at 5-5 overall and 3-4 in NSAA play. Congratulations to the 11 seniors on their careers.
