DSU Football Comes Up Short At Home
Matching up with the #14 Dickinson State yesterday afternoon at Trojan Field, Dakota State was unable to keep up with the Blue Hawks after the first quarter as Dickinson came away with a 31-14 victory. The game was postponed a day due to weather in the Dakota’s and both teams played in the cool chilly Sunday afternoon weather.
Dickinson State struck first, as they took the opening kickoff and marched down for a touchdown, getting a nine yard strike from Hayden Gibson to Alec Lovegren. Dakota State answered with a touchdown on their own as Torren Devericks found Josh Giles for a five yard completion. The Trojans would score on their next possession, getting a short touchdown run from Brodie Fredericksen and held a 14-6 lead after the first quarter.
That score would hold until late in the first half when the Blue Hawks got a field goal as the first half expired, making it 14-9 at the break. After Dakota State went three and out to begin the second half, Dickinson State took control of the contest getting a 50 yard touchdown pass and added the two point conversion to lead 17-14. Gibson would add two more touchdown passes in the second half to seal the victory.
The Trojans drove twice into the red zone in the final quarter of play but came up empty both times. Dickinson State outgained Dakota State in the contest 401 to 332 and both teams had two turnovers in the contest. Devericks finished with 226 passing yards in the game, Roger Moore had 4 receptions for 108 yards and Fredericksen went over the century mark for the fifth game of the season, finishing with 110 yards. Brodie is now 128 yards away from breaking the school record for career rushing yards.
With the loss, Dakota State fell to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in NSAA play. Trojans back in action on Saturday as they will hit the road to take on Waldorf. Game time is slated for 2pm Saturday and the action is on FM103.
