District 4B tournament kicks off with eight games over the weekend

The Cornbelt teams kicked off the postseason this weekend, with eight games in the District 4B Amatur Baseball Tournament. 

Opening round games started Friday night, with the Madison Broncos coming back from a two run deficit to walk off the Colman A’s 10-9. Madison trailed 9-7 entering the bottom of the ninth, but scored runs on an Nate Ricke sacrifice fly and an infield single by Aspen Daul. Heith Williams then delivered the walkoff hit to left. 

Also Friday, the Salem Cubs then followed with a 13-3 win over the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks. 

Saturday’s action in Flandreau included a slate of four games, starting with the host team Cardinals defeating Dell Rapids PBR 6-2. The Lennox Alpacas then followed with a 13-4 win over the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks. 

The #1 seed Dell Rapids Mudcats opened the evening games with a 14-2 win over Madison, while #2 Canova defeated Salem 14-4

Sunday featured a pair of elimination games. The Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks eliminated the Colman A’s with a 6-1 win. And Dell Rapids PBR held on for a 1-0 win over the Wood Ducks

The tournament takes a day off Monday. Action will resume Tuesday afternoon with the semi finals. The Mudcats will take on Lennox at 6pm, followed by Canova against Flandreu at 8:30.
